Miley Cyrus has angered Sinead O'Connor by posting a tweet making fun of her and Amanda Bynes' mental health problems.

O'Connor posted her third open letter to Cyrus on Facebook, accusing the Wrecking Ball singer of causing "enormous distress, harassment and the potential to damage my career" and threatening to sue unless she apologises for mocking O'Connor and Amanda Bynes' mental problems.

The latest angry reaction from O'Connor comes after Miley Cyrus reply to O'Connor's second open letter, tweeting: "Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week. So if you’d like to meet up and talk lemme know if your next letter. :)"

But O'Connor was having none of it, penning a third letter saying "I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you. You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes…an entirely innocent party…and myself…who also did nothing to deserve your abuse…along with every other sufferer of mental health problems and every person who suffered abuse at the hands of priests."

"You can take five minutes today between g-string f***in' changes to publicly apologise and remove your abusive tweets."

"What you did yesterday was designed to damage me and my career and has caused me enormous distress and harassment and has potential to damage my career…if you cannot apologise I will have no choice but to bring legal proceedings against you since it is extremely hard to be given work when people think one is suffering from mental illness."

O’Connor, who has warned that Cyrus is headed to mental problems herself, nonetheless promised "when you end up in the psych ward or rehab I’ll be happy to visit you…and would not lower myself to mock you.”

And she ended with a warning that Cyrus may be next to be labelled "crazy" by the world.

"Cease behaving in an anti-female capacity. You will become the victim of it shortly. Soon it will be you the media ‘crazy’..and you will not enjoy it…and you will appreciate people (like myself) stanidn up for you. Which I will be happy to do…if you earn my respect today by apologising publicly."

The public spat began when O’Connor posted her first open letter to Cyrus, warning her that she was "prostituting" herself, was a poor role model for young women, was wasting her talent and was on track to be destroyed by the music business.

In response, Cyrus mocked O’Connor’s history of mental illness, posting a photo of O'Connor ripping up a picture of the Pope on SNL and two-year-old tweets by O’Connor saying she needed a psychiatrist and was at risk of suicide. Cyrus tweeted "Before Amanda Bynes…There was…"  However there is conjecture over whether O'Connor posted the tweets at all under the username 'vampyahslayah'.

Cyrus took time in between rehearsals for SNL and tweeting about O'Connor to posing for extremely racy pictures for photographer Terry Richardson.
